Dan Hobbs
Dan Hobbs is an education specialist who travels extensively throughout the U.S, Canada & Europe teaching parents, teachers, and the varied professionals in the field of disability, positive approaches to challenges of behaviour and learning. Dan has written and produced books, articles, and videotapes on the topics of Gentle Teaching, but has spent the majority of his time providing ¡°hands on¡± training to parents and practitioners in education and social and health services. He has worked in the field for over twenty-five years and is the brother of a person with severe disabilities. He lives in Nebraska with his wife and five Children.

What will be presented?
This workshop presents the participants with an overview of the values, goals, and strategies that comprise the Gentle Teaching approach.
  Gentle Teaching is a multi-faceted approach that allows the practitioner to learn and grow with people with significant   behaviour challenges/learning. Videotapes are used to illustrate the process. A primary aim of the workshop is to provide parents, teachers, and Health Service professionals with ¡°how to¡± methods and concepts.Who should attend?

The workshop is designed to assist individuals who live with, teach, or in some way support individuals with a wide range of disabilities, the ideas, and methods discussed are appropriate and useful  in all human relationships. This is not a method for manipulating people with disabilities, but rather a way of living and learning with all people.

The Participants  will learn:

Specific non-aversive strategies for defusing distractive, disruptive, and destructive patterns of behaviour;

Values, goals and strategies that support the development of a mutually fair and valuing relationship with individuals who alienate themselves from others;

Proactive strategies for facilitating, supporting and empowering meaningful forms of participation and interaction;

To identify and avoid teaching postures and practices that facilitate and support challenging behaviour;

To identify, select, and communicate

strategies that value intervention.

Timings
The seminar will take place on Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th May 2008.
This is a two day course.

Registration:
  9.00 a.m. for 9.30 a.m.
Morning Sessions: 9.30—12.30 p.m.

Afternoon Session (Day1): 1.15—4.30 p.m.

Afternoon Session (Day2): 1.15—4.30 p.m.

Coffee and biscuits will be available but no lunch is provided.
